Ok, recently I have formed a new obsession for yet another reality show - "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant" on Discovery Health. This show never ceases to amaze me. Episode after episode these women tell true stories of making it to full term or rather close to full term and having NO clue they were having a child....that's CRAZY!
Having gone through a pregnancy I really have to question you having no clue. At first, I thought to myself perhaps if you were a bit overweight to begin with you wouldn't notice the big ole belly growing, but then I saw one episode were the girl was a size 6 and actually dropped to a size 4 during her unknown pregnancy...there went my understanding of how this could be.
My other, amazement with so many of the stories on this show is it's these young girls who are going out partying throughout their unknown pregnancy and thinking there morning sickness or nausea is being hungover. Then they suddenly have a child and realize, "Wow, I had no prenatal care and drank and smoke the whole time", and sure enough all the cases I've seen like that the baby has been perfectly healthy. Not quite sure if that's the exact message me we should be sending to people - get pregnant...drink and smoke...and don't worry the baby will be fine. My other recent favorite was the girl who was unknowingly pregnant had these terrible pains that were labor, but she thought they were blood clots (which apparently she had a history of). So, she is bent over in pain and wakes her boyfriend to tell her she's driving herself to the hospital and he lets her go ALONE. Come on buddy, granted I know you didn't know she was having your baby, but regardless you might want to accompany your severely in pain girlfriend to the ER. Sure enough she went outside to drive herself to the hospital and passed out in the lawn from pain. An hour later a neighbor found her and called an ambulance. They arrived and realized she was fully dilated and crowning and she gives birth on her neighbor's carpet. Meanwhile her boyfriend finally wakes from his precious sleep and realizes her car is still there and that there's an ambulance at the neighbor's house. He goes in to find out - congrats buddy, you're a Dad! Talk about an interesting day.
Seriously, this show never ceases to blow my mind. I think the fact that this isn't a few isolated cases, but there are enough of these occurrences out there to have a whole series based on it is the craziest thing of all. So, folks here's the trailer for the show.....but be warned the craziness of it will hook you in. Sure enough my Tivo is probably recording a new episode as we speak...can't wait to see what crazy thing happens next!
