Mama Kat Prompt - These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

It's been WAY too long since my last Mama Kat writing prompt, but I figure better late than never so I'm jumping in this week.

Her prompt (inspired by Scary Mommy)is: What would you put in your favorite things giveaway?

So, here goes......

#1 has to be a Tivo - my amazing hubby got me Tivo as a wedding gift and told me this in the limo from the ceremony to the reception. I think that was one of the greatest moments of my wedding day. I don't just like my Tivo, I LOVE my Tivo and regularly refer to him as my boyfriend. He not only records ALL my shows (many being bad reality TV), and allows me to watch them to watch them at my leisure. Also Tivo suggests shows I may like based on what I regularly watch.....god bless you Tivo. For with you, I will never watch commercials again.


#2 would have to be a Signing Time DVD. My son, G, is obsessed with Signing Time. These are a great collection of 30 minute shows introducing your child to sign language using pictures, songs, words, the works. If I even say, "Signing Time", my son begins to immediately sign Leah (the girl in the show) and practically starts salivating like a dog for a bone. They have been such a great way for G to learn to communicate what he wants and needs as toddler who can't exactly put his thoughts into words. They have also gotten me through moments of frustration by keeping him occupied and happy and they have gotten us through many a road trip in our car dvd player.


#3 would have to be Honey Buzzers cereal - yes, the imitation version of Honeycomb that they sell in giant bags at Walmart. It has become my new obsession and practically daily breakfast routine. It's so tasty and delicious and what makes me even happier is that knowing when I buy that gigantic bag it's costing even less than buying the small box of the authentic stuff....gotta love a bargain.


#4 would a Blackberry curve cell phone. It's pretty much my best friend. Having my phone, email, facebook, twitter, and blackberry messenger all right at my side is amazing. My life changed the day I finally upgraded from a plain cell phone to a Blackberry. There is a reason they call it a crackberry folks...addicting!


#5 would be Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream. My hubby went to Walmart the other night and I asked him to surprise me with dessert and to my delight this ice cream is what he brought me. I have always been a lover of Hagen Daaz coffee, but this simply takes it to a new level by marrying the deliciousness of coffee with Heath Bar.....Yum!


Well, that's my favorite things at the moment. It's definitely an ever changing list, but those are my loves for now. What would be in your favorite things basket? I feel so Oprah - esque.

Mama Kat Prompt - So You Think I'm a What?

Ahhh....so another Wednesday has rolled around and that means it's Mama Kat's writing prompt time. Last week I skipped out and since I have this week off work I thought it best to participate - no excuses. Sure enough I checked out the prompts and one "called" to me.



What is a common misconception about you?

Upon reading that prompt - I immediately thought of a few misconceptions that drive me CRAZY!

Misconception #1 "People always think I'm a stuck up bitch if they don't really know me" - I've always thought the source of that misconception is that when I'm not smiling I just don't appear friendly. Sorry, I'm just not the chipper cheerleader type to go around smiling all the time. I reserve smiles for real reasons - like G's baby giggles, K's stupid accents he attempts to do, and bad 5 year old level jokes. Here - I'll present example A to the jury:


See, that's a candid picture from a fun photo shoot with my mom and sister and I was having fun, but sure enough...no smile on my face looks like pissed off girl licking the batter....it's nuts! Also, cut me some slack in that pic as I was about 7-8 months pregnant at the time. So, the moral of that story - is get to know someone before you decide they are total biatch. Ok, onto misconception #2 - That because I'm witty and have a fantastic sense of humor (if I do say so myself) that I therefore am not sensitive to others remarks....WRONG! Despite my strong exterior I'm pretty much a mush ball on the inside and little things get to me and I get hurt easily. Those that know me well have seen a few of my meltdowns and it ain't pretty. So word to the wise - tread lightly on all people and realize that despite them appearing strong and able to handle anythings they do still have feelings and they can get hurt easily. Be nice people :)

Ok, well that's my story and I'm sticking to it....what are some misconceptions about YOU?

Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop - Current Fascination

So, one of Mama Kat's prompts this week really stood out to me - What are you currently fascinated with? Now, I'm going to take some creative liberties with this and really tell you all what I am and have been fascinated with. Yes, I know you are thinking, "Who cares what she's fascinated with? It's probably shoes, or American Idol, or Brad Pitt. Blah!" Nope, not me....I'm simply not your average girl and I admit this is a bit odd, but I have a weird fascination with prisons and serial killers. Let me declare that I do not aspire to visit prison or become a killer I just am amazed by the psyche of the brain to allow someone to become that type of individual....fascinating!

So prisons, I don't know what it is about them, I even shriek with glee when I drive by one - the tall guarded walls, the bad outfits, the terrible food, or the threat of a shanking or beating with a pillow case full of soap at any minute, but it all just intrigues me. Truthfully I blame MSNBC and their constant running of the show "Lock-Up". I accidentally tuned in one day and I haven't been the same since. I love how they go behind the scenes and get into the dynamics of how the prison runs - from the gangs, and hierarchy class system, to whose someones bitch - truly unbelievable. I think it keeps me so interested because it's the whole concept of putting a bunch of criminals and crazies together in the same building. What do you think is going to happen with that combination? Not the brightest of ideas, but damn it makes for some interesting TV.

Serial killers on the other hand are at least smarter. They think it out, plot and plan their attacks. Charles Manson is quite possibly the scariest man I have ever seen (on TV not in person - yikes!) with those giant eyes and creepy stares, but what he was able to do with the "Manson Family" and the whole Tate/LaBianca murders is insane. Crazy to think of someone able to hold that sort of control and power over someone to simply tell them to go out and kill people and have them do it. Especially someone so CRAZY looking! As much as it would scare the crap out of me - I would so love to sit down with him (with a large plexiglass wall between us and him in handcuffs with an armed guard) to pick his brain as to how it works and how he was able to do what he did. See part of me wanted to go into psychology and that part is fascinated by serial killers abilities.

OK, so my cards are on the table. I admit - prisons and serial killers just capture me. As weird as it is - it's me. What fascinates you that's out of the norm? Come on - it's only fair for you to share now. I'm off to go watching Investigation Discovery and catch up on my prison shows....yeah!

Mama Kat's Writing Assignment - Rhyme Time with a Limerick

As this is my first Mama Kat writing prompt I thought I'd go short and sweet and picked the limerick. Since my lovely sister, L, read my first blog and her immediate reaction was "Why didn't you write about me?" I figured a limerick about her would just fit the bill.

An Ode To My Sister

I have a pilot sister of mine
Who is often found drinking red wine
She sings loud in the car
No matter where we are
But if I'm sad she can make me feel fine



My fabulous sister in all her glory!
